How do I join?

If you have transferred to BT through TUPE you will be asked to sign a BT application form confirming that you want to become a member of the BTRSS. Unlike other new BT employees you will not become a member of the scheme automatically.

Before you join the BTRSS, you should read all of the important information in your Joining Pack below, especially the Key Features Document. You need to be aware of the risks and commitment involved in being a member and the Key Features Document gives details of these. The suitability of the BTRSS and the benefits it might provide will depend on your own personal circumstances.

As with any investment, the value of your fund can go up or down and may be worth less than what was paid in.

You should also consider your investment options and payment levels. Once you have read the Joining Pack click 'Next' at the bottom of the page to take you to the next stage.

Please note that these documents are provided in PDF format and you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to allow you to view these. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, this is free to download at Adobe. You can also view using Adobe's Accessible Tools.

If there is anything you are unsure of, we recommend that you speak to an independent financial adviser. You may need to pay for this advice. If you do not have your own financial adviser, you can find one in your area by visiting unbiased.co.uk.

The link to unbiased.co.uk is outside of Standard Life's own website and will open in a new window. Standard Life is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.

The BT Life Assurance Scheme (BTLAS) provides you with Life Cover under an arrangement managed and operated directly by BT. The completion and return of a BTLAS Expression of Wish Form do not form any contract with Standard Life and your employer is responsible for this form and for making any application for benefits under the BTLAS on your behalf.

A few days after you have joined the BTRSS, Standard Life will send your policy documents to your home address. You will also receive a username and password that will allow you access to your own webpage where you can change your payment levels and investment options as well as keep track of your plan.

What to do if you don't want to join?

  1. If you decide that you do not wish to join the BTRSS when you join BT, you should complete the relevant section of the BT application form.

  2. If you join the BTRSS, you can cancel within 30 days of receiving your policy documents from Standard Life.

  3. Once you have joined the BTRSS you can opt out at any time by downloading the BT Opt Out form.
  4. If you opt out of the BTRSS after the 30 day cancellation period, your payments will not be refunded.
